S.I.S.T.E.R.S.

S.I.S.T.E.R.S. (Students Inspiring Success Through Education Retention and Serviceis a two-year retention-focused mentoring program designed to promote overall academic and social development in female students at North Carolina A&T. 

Target Population:

First-year female students who attended the Aggie Success Academy Summer Bridge Program. 

Program Initiatives

  • Members will attend monthly meetings/workshops to enhance personal growth and development.
  • Members will be housed together in the same residence hall for their first year.
  • Members will also take College Success (FRST-101) as a cohort.
  • Students will participate in various campus and community events to enrich their college experience.
  • Freshman Members will be assigned a Peer Mentor from the S.I.S.T.E.R.S sophomore cohort.

Members of this program will:

  • Receive intellectual, personal, and professional growth through the development of positive relationships within local and campus communities.
  • Create a deeper appreciation for excellence in education, vocation, and service to the community.
  • Become aware of campus educational resources and promote participant’s utilization of all services (i.e., tutorial, supplemental instruction, faculty interaction, etc.).
  • Establish positive relationships with peers and faculty through effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
  • Identify strengths and areas of improvement for personal growth, leadership, and development through self-assessment and mentoring.
  • Develop a sense of personal responsibility through systematic decision-making in personal and academic related issues.
  • Enrich the learning experience, enhance critical thinking, and promote a desire for life-long personal development through servicing our community.
